CBWT has been awarded with the Customer 1st Quality Assurance Standard a nationally recognised Quality Assurance Framework for business support providers responsible for delivering and providing publicly funded business support services. The framework consists of 32 standards focussing on 3 key areas, Market Awareness, Customer Relationships and People.
The Customer First framework and assessment has allowed CBWT to strengthen its systems and processes in delivering business support services and in turn further improve effective customer relationships.
CBWT will use this as a tool to continuously review and improve its services to its customers with re-assessments taking place every two years.
CBWT is the wool textile industry trade association, providing a unified voice for 150 members whose activities cover raw fibres to finished textiles. Represented companies consist of Wool Traders, Raw Fibre Processors, Spinners, Fabric Manufacturers, Dyers and Finishers.
A diverse range of products is supplied by CBWT member companies to the apparel, carpet, household and transport fabric industries in the UK and overseas.
Ever changing market conditions have compelled companies to undertake an increasingly diverse range of activities in responding effectively to customer requirements.
CBWT is a membership organisation funded by annual subscription. Members are assigned to one of the following sections, dependant upon their activities:
- British Wool Federation - Wool merchants and raw fibre processors
- Woollen & Worsted Spinners Federation - Carpet and apparel yarn spinners
- Wool Textile Manufacturers Federation - Fabric manufacturers
- Dyeing and Finishing Division - Dyers and finishers of fibres and fabrics
- Associate Members - Companies involved in other sectors of textile and associated industries
The majority of companies within the industry are members, thereby ensuring that we can provide a strong representative voice to support the needs and concerns of companies.
What we do……

Provide information, advice and assistance to members on matters affecting
their business.
How we do it……
Our focus is to provide the advice, information and representation required
by member companies in this rapidly evolving global business environment.
Most services are included in a company’s subscription and full details
are available on request. Membership subscriptions provide effective representation
and a comprehensive advisory service. Other services are fee based, at preferential
rates for members.
Our aim is to……
Promote the textile industry via government and non-governmental bodies, other trade associations, business support agencies, local authorities and educational establishments. We develop effective relationships with these organisations in order to promote and represent the textile industry. A key objective is to create a positive image of the industry for the benefit of member companies. Appropriate contacts among media, opinion formers and the general public are targeted using a range of promotional activities.
and, in addition……
Actively seek to ensure that legislation affecting industry – both at UK and European level – is developed and implemented in a practical manner and to realistic timescales. Responding to Government consultation documents and attendance at national and international committees, meetings and conferences plays an important part in promotion and representation; as well as providing our specialist staff with up-to-date information for dissemination to the member companies.
